Spanish Flu (1918-1919), Asian Flu (1957-1958), Hong Kong Flu (1968-1969), Russian Flu (1977-1978).  All were world-wide epidemics, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives.  All are related to each other.  The flu virus mutates yearly – so this year’s vaccines may not be good for next year.  The flu virus is carried by birds and pigs until it mutates into something that can be passed to humans.
