Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:    Computer Technician

            SUMMARY:  Assists the District to utilize computing technology (hardware and software) to increase effectiveness, reduce costs, improve instruction and learning and improve use of professional and clerical time to the ultimate benefit of all educational programs.  Assist the District in implementing and maintaining computer networks in schools and in the District offices.

 

            ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

 

Þ    Assists with each school's attendance reporting functions.  This requires an understanding of the Osiris Attendance Monitor.

Þ    Receives and transmits school and District attendance reporting.  This process will involve the use of PARTS and will require a modem and telephone line at the technician's workstations.

Þ    Audits each school's Osiris files for EFA and EIA coding.  This audit process will ensure accuracy and consistency in each school's EFA and EIA reporting.

Þ    Assists with each school's grade reporting functions.  This requires an understanding of the Osiris Grade Reporter module.

Þ    Monitors the collection and restoring of each school's Osiris backups to the District network. 

Þ    Maintains a District-wide inventory of all computer hardware, peripherals, and licensed software.

Þ    Supervises the ordering and purchasing of computing hardware, software, and other related materials.  This includes the creation and maintenance of current pricing information for all technology-related products.

Þ    Facilitates and oversees the publication of a quarterly newsletter dealing with computing services within the District.

Þ    Assists with the installation and maintenance of report card and continuous assessment records at appropriate times throughout the school year.

Þ    Provides telephone and on-site support for hardware and software used in schools and in the District Offices.

Þ    Completes other tasks, as assigned, to support the District.

Attendance Responsibilities:

Þ    Assists with each school's attendance and enrollment functions, including the training of new staff.

Þ    Audits all schools' EFA and IEA coding prior to the reporting date for 45-day data.

Þ    Receives and transmits all school and District attendance data.  Assists each school in the appropriate reporting of PARTS data.

Þ    Creates and distributes all appropriate reports containing attendance and enrollment data.

Database Responsibilities:

Þ    Monitors the collection and restoration of each school's Osiris backups to the District network.  Backups will be restored based on regular schedule for each week.

Þ    Assists in the creation and installation of database files on the District network.

Grade Reporting Responsibilities:

Þ    Assists with each school's grade reporting functions, including the training of new staff.

Þ    Assists in the manipulation of grade reporting and permanent assessment records on each school's networks.

Inventory Responsibilities

Þ    Creates and maintains a District-wide inventory of computing hardware and peripherals, and licensed software used in the District.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma. Working knowledge of personal computers and networks, Osiris and other software. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to speak and present effectively before vendors, administration and staff.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms and bend and twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person.  The employee must frequently drive to different schools in the District. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to distinguish the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, etc.

The noise level in the work environment may be quiet or noisy. The employee usually works inside and may be required to work over 6 feet off the ground, in confined spaces and/or cramped body positions.  The employee must frequently work irregular or extended work hours and must meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee is continuously interacting with the public and staff.
