POSITION TITLE: Asbestos Coordinator

SUMMARY: Protects the health of building
occupants and limits present and future liability exposure. Serves Greenwood School Districts 50, 51,
52, Emerald Center, GLEAAMS, City of Greenwood, Abbeville School District 60.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES.
Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains
current management plan for each building.
Þ
Posts
notices to instruct building occupants and the public and parents as required
by law.
Þ
Performs
periodic surveillance of each building and complete documentation forms of the
event at least every six months.
Þ
Performs
reinspection of the building ever 3 years as required by law and to update the
building management plan.
Þ
Performs
and documents awareness training for all custodial and maintenance
personnel. Continually trains new
employees as turnover occurs.
Þ
Maintains
medical surveillance records for those select employees as required by law.
Þ
Amends or
adjusts the management plan in reference to all response actions taken within
each building - removal, encapsulation, enclosures, repair or operations and
maintenance. Documentation must be made
for any of this regardless of the seriousness, listing the beginning date,
ending date, participants' names and addresses, proof of accreditation,
disposition of asbestos material if removed, and results of air sampling after
the completion of the response action.

Reports and
documents all fiber release episodes.
Þ
Notifies
and documents notification of all outside contractors that will be doing work
around asbestos materials (phone company, pest control, etc.)

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED. EPA School trained worker fully aware of
asbestos related laws and regulations as applicable from AHERA, OSHA, NESHAP,
SCDHEC, and EPA. Must be able to
effectively deal with the public and staff both in person and on the phone.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific
and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to
write speeches and articles for publication in a variety of formats and styles.
Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management,
public groups/community, and Board of Education.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to apply financial concepts such as
compound interest, time value of money, tax rates and discounts. Ability to
add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to interpret a variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram forms and deal with several abstract
and concrete variables.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Valid SC Driver's License. Ability to develop
effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to
communicate clearly and concisely.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements
and the Board of Education policies.

be able to hear the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc. The
employee continuously communicates through speech.
