Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:      Assistant Athletic Director         Reports To:      Athletic Director

            SUMMARY:  Assists the Athletic Director in providing each enrolled student of secondary school age an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport and the principles of fair play.

           

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Þ      Assists the AD in the organization and administration with the overall program of extracurricular athletics.

Þ      Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events in the absence of the AD.

Þ      Assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of athletic events when the AD is serving as the head coach of a sport.

Þ      Assists in the arrangement of transportation for athletic contest participants when necessary.

Þ      Becomes familiar with appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.

Þ      Assists the AD in the supervision of the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises assistant coaches in the Athletic Department at the direction of the AD.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Valid teacher certification, and experience in the organization and administration of athletic and physical education programs.  Must be able to effectively deal with the public and staff both in person and on the phone. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication in a variety of formats and styles.  Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community and Board of Education.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plain and solid geometry and trigonometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit, sprint/run, squat, stoop, kneel, bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person. The employee must be able to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 75+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in a quiet or loud environment. The employee continuously communicates through speech.

The employee frequently works outside in a loud environment and is exposed to sunlight. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
