Position Title:          Secondary Band Director

Reports To:    Principal

 

SUMMARY: Coordinate and facilitate the band program in grades 9-12.  This includes: articulation with the middle schools; developing a marching and concert band; supervising the colorguard and majorettes; communicating between disciplines, schools, parent support groups, and community; designing, coordinating and providing training; planning and facilitating material orders, responsible for instruments and equipment belonging to the district; repair of said instruments; coordinating performance schedules; and scheduling all music transportation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

§         Keeps informed of the latest developments in the field of music, conveys relevant information to students, parents, teachers and administrators.

§         Provides leadership in the planning and execution of school concerts and performances.

§         Confers with music equipment companies on the condition of music equipment and sheet music and provides for the necessary repairs and maintenance.

§         Serves as a consultant to advisors of extracurricular music activities in the schools.

§         Maintains the necessary records for proper management.

§         Prepares and administers the music program budget.

§         Works with the Band Booster Club.

§         Supervises summer band component.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises classroom and students.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Teaching South Carolina Certificate in Instrumental Music

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

 

 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, and occasionally walk and stand.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to push or lift up to 25 lbs.  The employee frequently will use manual dexterity and or finger dexterity and repeat the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read music or handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will frequently drive while performing the duties of this job.  The employee will hear conversations in a quiet and noisy environment and have the ability to tell where a sound is coming from.
