SUMMARY: Provide a parenting skills development
service to children and their families. Serve as a member of school and
community collaborations and partnerships in planning and providing services to
help children be successful in school and life.
JOB GOAL: To
use effectively all appropriate resources to help parents be the first, most
influential and forever teachers in the development of their child.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.
1.
Perform
Born-To-Read hospital visits to newborns and their parents;
2.
Provide
follow-up home visits to Born-To-Read families and other identified families as
requested to provide parenting services;
3.
Conduct/Coordinate
parent/child workshops focusing on appropriate developmental learning
activities;
4.
Identify
parents who do not have a high school diploma and encourage their participation
in basic skills/literacy instruction, GED instruction or adult education, as
appropriate;
5.
Conduct/coordinate
the developmental screening of children birth to three in the District
parenting program to determine needs and assist in services to meet needs;
6.
Establish
and maintain effective liaison with the various offices and agencies within the
community that may provide specialized or professional help to children and their
parents;
7.
Consult
and collaborate with appropriate school personnel, case management personnel,
and social agency personnel in gathering and giving information about a child
or family’s special needs;
8.
Serve
as a liaison between parents, children, community and school;
9.
Assist
in development of forms and keep records of data information for completion of
reports;
10.
Perform
other related duties that foster academic growth and parenting growth in
children birth to age five and their families;
11.
Attend
and assist with community collaboration activities such as Born-To-Read,
Success By Six, Parenting Collaboration, Wellness Celebration, and others as
identified and requested;
12.
Other
related duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises
children.
QUALIFICATION
REQUIREMENTS: To perform
this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in social work and at least three
years of successful experience in social work/human services and such alternative
qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read
and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,
customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work
with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and
fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply
concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical
situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to
define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in
mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete
variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to
apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;
ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives
and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to
speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.
