Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Programs for Students with Disabilities
Department: Instruction
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Instruction
SUMMARY: Responsible for
assisting the Director of Special Services in enlarging the educational
experience of students by facilitating their best possible adjustment to school
through a program of special services through programs for the handicapped.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other
duties may be assigned.
·
Coordinate the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act by developing policies and procedures under the direction of
the Director of Special Services. |
·
Monitor activities to ensure that the various components of IDEA are
being implemented. |
·
Meet with parents regarding concerns for their children as needed. |
·
Serve as a support to principals and special education teachers in
the day to day operations of special education programs. |
·
Supervise the maintenance of case records on students and the
completion of all required reports. |
·
Provide opportunities for staff development. |
·
Coordinate discipline procedures with school administrative staff,
psychologists, and district administrative staff. |
·
Gather and compile information for state and federal reports. |
·
Attend school-based staffings on an as needed basis. |
·
Coordinate material and supply needs of teachers. |
·
Supervise and track special services inventory in all schools. |
·
Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as
may from time to time be assigned. |
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION,
QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

A master’s degree in special education, psychological services,
and/or administration. |
·
A valid South Carolina certificate in one of the following areas:
Superintendent, Elementary or Secondary Principal, Elementary or Secondary
Supervisor, School Psychologist III, School Psychologist II, or Advanced
Guidance (Secondary). |
·
At least five years’ successful experience in public school work,
either as a special education teacher or in psychological services, and/or
administration. |
·
Persons considered for this position should be experienced in or have
knowledge of the various handicapped conditions, procedures for identifying
these conditions and program alternatives for handicapped children. |
·
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find
appropriate and acceptable. |
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret
scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top
management, public groups/community, and Board of Education.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data,
establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must have experience in or have knowledge of the
various handicapped conditions, procedures for identifying these conditions and
program alternatives for handicapped children. Ability to develop effective
working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and
concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements
and the Board of Education policies.
