Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:    Director of Maintenance

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Þ      Maintains and reports maintenance employee leave records such as sick leave, hours worked, vacation, etc., and conducts employee evaluations.

Þ      Responsible for technology application as it applies to the maintenance area.

Þ      Procures all equipment and supplies used in maintenance department in accordance with district, state and federal guidelines.

Þ      Maintains energy saving devices on boilers and air conditioning units and recommends changes as needed.

Þ      Checks building, equipment and district grounds for maintenance and general repairs.

Þ      Assigns and evaluates all work assignments to district maintenance personnel on a daily basis.

Þ      Develops and coordinates long range maintenance plan.

Þ      Assists in budget preparation for maintenance related items.

Þ      Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Business Operations.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and provides leadership for all employees of the district maintenance department.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate Degree or equivalent in a maintenance related area.  Minimum 5 years work experience in related field.  Minimum 3 years supervisory experience in a maintenance related field. Computer experience desired. Must be able to effectively deal with the public and staff both in person and on the phone.

 

 

 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Board of Education.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Valid SC Driver's License. Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

The employee must be able to reach with hands and arms.  The employee must continuously lift and/or move 90+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Employee must be able to distinguish where a sound is coming from. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to drive. The employee must be able to hear the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc. The employee continuously communicates through speech.

The employee frequently works outside in a loud environment and is exposed to sunlight. The employee walks on slippery surfaces, works over 6 feet off the ground and may work in confined spaces.  The employee is exposed to environmental allergens and has contact with oils, solvents, degreaser, pesticides, and/or herbicides, Gases, fumes, sprays, etc. The employee is continuously interacting with the public and staff.  The employee is required to work irregular or extended work hours and meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
