SUMMARY:
Provides support services for district
teachers through organizing, cataloging, and routing requested instructional
materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Þ
Mans the
district media center during all school and inservice days of the school year
as well as other days, totaling 245.
Þ
Assists
teachers in selecting material appropriate for their curriculum needs.
Þ
Accepts
reservations and schedules use of audiovisual material as requested by
teachers.
Þ
Prepares
audiovisual material for distribution to the schools.
Þ
Maintains
circulation records of materials checked out.
Þ
Processes
audiovisual material returned to district media center including rewinding,
repairing, and cleaning 16mm films.
Þ
Maintains
inventory of MECC disks in the schools.
Þ
Processes
and maintains files of district MECC manuals.
Þ
Copies MECC
computer disks for distribution to schools.
Þ
Notifies
teachers who have failed to return materials on time.
Þ
Prepares
current periodicals for shelving or routing and maintains the back issue
collection.
Þ
Maintains
district files of publisher catalogs.
Þ
Assists in
preparing bibliographies of specific curricula areas.
Þ
Types
catalog cards, correspondence, orders, bibliographies, audiovisual catalog
updates, etc.
Þ
Files
catalog and shelf list cards.
Þ
Maintains
circulation statistics.
Þ
Maintains
current inventory of supplies and suggests items for acquisition as needed.
Þ
Answers
ready reference questions for teachers, librarians, and other district
personnel.
Þ
Maintains
and demonstrates use of Ellison die machine and dies; laminator; poster-making
machine; VCR/TV monitor; overhead projectors; portable PA system, binding
machine, etc.
Þ
Performs
bookkeeping and reporting tasks associated with federal funds received through
Chapter 2.
Þ
Performs
media center utilization inservice for teachers.
Þ
Updates
schools and district-level instructional staff of new acquisitions for media
center.
Þ
Collects,
updates and redistributes media center catalog to all schools annually.
Þ
Maintains
current newspaper file in Office of Instruction.
Þ
Performs
other duties as assigned by district media specialist or assistant
superintendent for instruction.
Þ
Maintains
accession book.
Þ
Maintains
the appearance of the media center.
Þ
Contacts
Media Specialists about meetings.

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED and 4 years
experience, or AA degree in secretarial science and one year experience, or BS degree
in business education and secretarial science. Must be able to effectively deal
with the public and staff both in person and on the phone.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as
safety rules, scientific and technical journals, operating and maintenance
instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to present information in
one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees
and/or students. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
customers.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, discounts,
tax rates and percentages.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data,
establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to develop effective working relationships
with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and
concisely. Ability to perform duties
with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education
policies.
