Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:    Director of Computing Services

 

            Department:      Human Resources

            Reports To:      Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources

 

            SUMMARY:  Enables the District to utilize computing technology (hardware and software) to increase effectiveness, reduce costs, improve instruction and learning and improve use of professional and clerical time to the ultimate benefit of all educational programs.

 

            ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

 

Þ    Plans and implements a District-wide program for the use of computers in the management of the District, schools, and instructional programs.  This included local area networks, wide area networks, and telecommunications.

Þ    Plans and implements the coordination and standardization of District computer operations and procedures.  Supervises the planning and implementation of those procedures.

Þ    Assists in the development of a curriculum management system that meets curriculum and management needs of the District.

Þ    Plans and implements training activities for school and District personnel who want or need to become computer users.

Þ    Supervises the organization of user interaction groups among users with specific interests relating to computer use.

Þ    Supervises the dissemination of information about useful applications, procedures, and techniques developed and used at other schools or departments.

Þ    Supervise the preparation and presentation of exemplary ideas, solution strategies, and District-developed materials with other districts and with State agencies.

Þ    Supervises the obtainment and/or provision of maintenance for all computer hardware and software used in District, school, and/or program management.

Þ    Supervises the creation and maintenance of records that are needed at the District level to assure sound evaluation of the Osiris and Pathways program objectives within pilot projects and beyond the pilot periods.

Þ    Supervises the maintenance of inventory records of all computing hardware and software used for District, school, or program management.

Þ    Plans strategies for funding the implementation of technology in the District.

Pathways Responsibilities:

Þ    Plans and supervises the use of Osiris, TRIMS, PARTS, Precode and other Pathways programs within the District.

Þ    Plans and facilitates district-wide and school-level advisor groups for planning and implementing all Pathways programs.

Þ    Plans and supervises services to meet the continuing needs of the Osiris and Pathways support staff and the District and school levels.

Þ    Plans and supervises the appropriate training of District and school staff in the use of Osiris and other Pathways software.

Attendance Record Keeping and Reporting Responsibilities:

Þ    Assists the Chapter 1 Coordinator in the database manipulation of test results to determine eligibility of students for Chapter 1 Services.

Þ    Assists the District Testing Coordinator in the database manipulation of test results to provide appropriate information from school administrators and teachers.

Þ    Assists the Director of Elementary Education in the database manipulation of test results to determine eligibility of students for Gifted and Talented services.

Þ    Provides other services related to the analysis and reporting of data available electronically to the District.

Þ    Provides database services for any department, office, or school.

Technical Responsibilities:

Þ    Plans and implements security procedures for computing hardware and data files.

Þ    Supervises and assists in providing the first level of technical support to District computer users.

Þ    Supervises the installation of all software onto computer networks within the District offices and schools.

Þ    Plans solution strategies and supervises the implementation of those strategies for computer-related problems.

Þ    Supervises the determination of software solutions for specific District and school applications.

Þ    Researches areas and means for expanding computer uses throughout the District.

Þ    Supervises the purchase of computing hardware, software, and other computing materials in the District.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises Computing Services staff and the installation of computers and software and the technical support offered to District and schools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Masters degree and working knowledge of the application of technology to instructional programs, personal computer and networks, Osiris and other Pathways software.  Working knowledge of the technical aspects of personal computers, peripherals, networks, and connectivity devises, including installation and implementation.

 

 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication in a variety of formats or styles.  Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management public groups/community, and Board of Education.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply financial concepts such as compound interest, time value of money, tax rates and discounts.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to distinguish the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, etc.

The noise level in the work environment may be quiet or noisy.
