SUMMARY: Assists Director of Staff
Development/Evaluation in the implementation of public information and public
relations programs and activities and provides clerical support for the Office
of Human Resources and the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
Þ Publishes
(creates, designs, does layout and typeset, prepares specifications for bidding
and works with printers) Planning calendar, annual report, personnel roster,
personnel handbook, PTA/PTO handbook, Inside District 50, District 50
brochures, certificates, flyers, invitations, school lunch menus, etc. and
distributes to parents and the community.
Þ Assists
in planning special events such as Board Appreciation reception, other
receptions, inservice breakfasts, and luncheons.
Þ Coordinates
the Teacher of the Year Program by creating handbook, setting up interviews,
notifying judges, keeping winner confidential until announced, creating
certificates for each teacher, coordinating luncheon, sending flowers to winner
and helping the winning teacher prepare material for State Department.
Þ Coordinates
the Sallie Mae First-Year Teacher Award program by sending information to
principals, scheduling interviews, preparing correspondence, notifying
principal and winner, assisting winner with materials for the State and making
certificate for the winner.
Þ Sends
list of employees with 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service to each
principal, orders pins to recognize employees, and plans reception.
Þ During
American Education Week, prepares list of school activities, assists in
planning Board reception recognizing Teachers of the Year.
Þ Assists
in planning reception for retiring personnel, orders gifts, prepares
certificates, sends invitations, etc.
Þ Works
with president of PTA/PTO Council in publishing handbook, sending memos and
other correspondence and minutes throughout the year and special activities
during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Þ Creates
flyers, sends letters and distributes them to merchants, principals, teachers,
and teaching assistants during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Þ Provides
responses to inquiries for information from the public and other departments.
Þ Types
all copy for publications and all normal office correspondence.
Þ Maintains
a regular filing system and processes incoming correspondence.
Þ Maintains
Gold Card Club register.
Þ Processes
requisitions, travel vouchers and other internal business communications. Keeps ongoing record of public information
budget expenditures and account balances.
Þ Photocopies
and distributes regularly materials, such as newspaper articles on educational
topics.
Þ Assists
Director of Staff Development/Evaluation in organizing and implementing annual
New Teacher Welcome.
Þ Prepares
monthly events and district staff development calendars based on information
supplied by district departments and the schools.
Þ Performs
telephone surveys.
Þ Assists
with bulk mailing.
Þ Maintains
an up-to-date list of all community agencies and organizations.
Þ
Maintains a separate current file on emergency
procedures, inclement weather, media contacts, supplies, etc.
Þ Assists
with photographing district events, new teacher orientation and new employee
ids.
Þ Assists
in preparation for district inservice programs.
Þ Assists
all departments in preparation of special events or other duties.
Þ Organizes
and manages the administrator's sunshine fund by collecting dues, depositing
checks in bank, and sending cards or flowers to administrators/families
whenever needed.
Þ Maintains
records and reports of annual district and school United Way campaign.

QUALIFICATION

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and four years
experience; Associate Degree in Secretarial Science and one year experience; or
BS Degree in Business Education and Secretarial Science. Computer experience
necessary. Must be able to deal with the public.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to
write speeches and articles for publication in a variety of formats or
styles. Ability to effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers,
employees, clients, customers and members of the business community.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to deal with problems involving a
variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to pass a District typing test. Ability to operate a personal computer and
related software. Ability to use
Microsoft Office applications. Ability
to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school
community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing. Ability to perform duties with
awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education
policies. Ability to schedule flexible
work hours and to prioritize and carry out a variety of responsibilities. Ability to proofread and correct drafts of
all publications, correspondence, etc.
