SUMMARY:
Assists the payroll supervisor in producing all payrolls and with all related
functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.

Keys
substitute reports and bi-weekly absences into computer.
Þ
Keys
payroll information for new substitutes from W-4 forms and retirement forms,
and adjustments to salaries, sick days, etc.
Þ
Maintains
annual leave for all employees.
Þ
Maintains
filing system.
Þ
Prepares
payroll checks for distribution (stuffing, sealing, etc.).
Þ
Prepares
new payroll index cards annually.
Þ
Assists in
preparing new salary addendum for all employees annually.
Þ
Assists
payroll supervisor in keying and checking all new salaries annually.
Þ
Assists
payroll supervisor in the preparation, distribution and filing of W-2's.
Þ
Answers
telephone.
Þ
Works with
payroll supervisor in the collection of information from schools, data entry,
and processing of all payrolls.
Þ
Serves as
backup for payroll supervisor for all payroll functions and worker's
compensation items.
Þ
Assists
payroll supervisor in maintaining and making payments of payroll deductions.
Þ
Provides
daily relief for district switchboard operator.
Þ
Prepares
payroll claims.
Þ
Processes
verification of employment requests.
Þ
Performs
various other payroll functions as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma, college or technical
training. Must pass District 50 typing test. Two years experience in all phases
of payroll. Experience with personal computers. Must be able to effectively
deal with the public and staff both in person and on the phone.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as
safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information in
one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees
and/or students.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as
discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages. Ability to add, subtract,
multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions and decimals.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to deal with problems involving a
variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply
simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral
instructions.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to develop effective working
relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate
clearly and concisely. Ability to
perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of
Education policies.
