POSITION TITLE: Consultant for Psychological Services

SUMMARY: Enables students to receive the fullest
possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self
and improving their school educational experience through a program of
psychological diagnosis and recommendations.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
Þ Organizes
and coordinates the psychological services of the district.
Þ Supervises,
reviews, and/or counter-signs all reports conducted by the Level I
psychologists and contract testers.
Þ Evaluates
the work of contract testers to assure quality work.
Þ Makes
equitable work assignments among the three psychologists.
Þ Keeps
abreast of what the other psychologists are doing at all times.
Þ Works
closely with principals and teachers in an advisory capacity on matters of student
behavior and learning.
Þ Conducts
the annual Search-Screen Clinic.
Þ Conducts
an annual workshop on writing and up-dating IEPs.
Þ Supervises
the procedural aspects for placing children into, and dismissing children out
of special education.
Þ Keeps
accurate, up-to-date enrollment figures at all times.
Þ Keeps
abreast with the legal rules and regulations set forth by the State Department
of Education and the federal government.
Þ Keeps
the Director of Special Services informed on all matters involving Psychological
Services, and consults with him/her prior to making any major decisions that
may have legal, procedural, technical, political or financial ramifications.
Þ Supervises
the clerical personnel in Psychological Services and sees that an up-to-date
file is maintained on all students evaluated.
Þ Consults
with the Director of Special Services prior to confirming plans for
out-of-district or out-of-state meetings.
Þ Makes
careful and efficient psychological evaluations of students referred within
assigned schools or other sources as the need arises.
Þ Prepares
a written report for all students evaluated.
Þ Arranges
and conducts staffing for students evaluated.
Þ Sees
that all legal and procedural details have been complied with when considering
placing children in special education.
Þ Works
cooperatively with principals and teachers when the need arises.
Þ Works
cooperatively with the other psychologists and other local agencies.
Þ Assists
in planning and conducting inservice programs and workshops for special
education teachers and principals.
Þ Participates
in parent conferences as requested.
Þ Serves
as a resource person concerning students' disabilities for teachers and other
school personnel.
SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the clerical personnel in
Psychological Services.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must have certification of Level II School
Psychologist. Must communicate clearly both in person and on the phone.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret
scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information
and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees,
clients, customers, and/or the general public.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect date,
establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to develop effective working
relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to
communicate clearly and concisely.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements
and the Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to
walk and reach with hands and arms. The
employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is
regularly required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact
with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several
people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to distinguish the
difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, etc.
