POSITION TITLE: School Psychologist

SUMMARY: Enables students to receive the fullest
possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self
and improving their school educational experience through a program of
psychological diagnosis and recommendations.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
Þ Makes
careful and efficient psychological evaluations of all students referred within
assigned schools or other sources as the need arises.
Þ Prepares
a written report for all students evaluated.
Þ Arranges
and conducts staffing for students evaluated.
Þ Sees
that all legal and procedural details have been complied with when considering
placing children in a special education program.
Þ Assists
teachers and principals with problems of behavior and learning.
Þ Works
cooperatively with principals and teachers when the need arises.
Þ Works
cooperatively with local agencies.
Þ Assists
in planning and conducting inservice programs and workshops for special
education teachers and principals.
Þ Carries
out all professional assignments that may be assigned by the Director of
Special Services or his/her designee.
Þ Consults
with the Consultant for Psychological Services on all major decisions before
bringing them to the attention of the Director of Special Services.
Þ Consults
on special educational needs of mentally retarded, emotionally disturbed,
learning disabled, slow-learning children and children with any other learning
problems.
Þ Participates
in parent conferences as requested.
Þ Serves
as a resource person concerning students' disabilities for teachers and other
school personnel.
Þ Works
cooperatively with the other psychologists as it relates to planning and
organizing psychological services for the school district.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job

EDUCATION
and/or EXPERIENCE:
Certification of Level I or Level II School
Psychologist. Must be able to effectively deal with the public, staff, students
and parents both in person and on the phone.
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret
scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to
prescribed style and format. Ability to
effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general
public.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such
as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plain and solid
geometry and trigonometry.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, gather data,
establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to develop effective working
relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to
communicate clearly and concisely.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements
and the Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to

abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and
peripheral vision. Employee must be able to distinguish the difference between
bells, buzzers, beeps, etc.
