Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:    Network Systems Specialist

 

            Department:      Human Resources

            Reports To:      Director of Computing Services

            SUMMARY:  Assists the Director of Computing Services and the Data Systems Specialist with tasks that increase effectiveness, reduce costs, improve instruction and learning and improve use of professional and clerical time to the ultimate benefit of all educational programs.

 

            ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

 

·  Knowledge of Windows 2000/2003/etc. servers;

·  Knowledge of SQL databases;

·  Knowledge of PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion, and other web-based applications related to online database access;

·  Knowledge of and skills in SIF-compliant applications (horizontal and vertical);

·  Ability to work with or learn to work with existing applications (such as TestView, HealthOffice, MealsPlus, SASI, and other databases);

·  Ability to build interactive web interfaces to online databases;

·  Ability to create secure access to online databases;

·  Ability to create and maintain websites and web pages, including the district’s website and interface individual school websites with the district website;

·  Ability to create and manage web-based surveys (interface, database, reports).

·  Collaborates with the Data Systems Specialist on SIF compliance.

·  Recommends server hardware.

·  Collaborates on construction projects within the District.

·  Assists with Network monitoring.

·  Assists with Instructional System support.

·  Assists with Internet management.

·  Assists with Operational Systems support.

None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum associates degree with extensive experience in network systems management, Bachelor’s degree preferred with experience in network systems management.  Knowledge of the application of technology to problem solving and access to information.  Working knowledge of databases and web-based applications.  Working knowledge of the technical aspects of personal computers, peripherals, networks, and connectivity devices

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret technical publications related to technology. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical and statistical concepts.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision. Employee must be able to distinguish the difference between bells, buzzers, beeps, etc.
