POSITION TITLE:   Smaller Learning Communities Grant Coordinator

            SUMMARY:              Coordinates the implementation of the Smaller Learning Communities Grant at Greenwood High School.

           

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

 

̃         Collaborates with administration and staff to develop a program that meets the goals and objectives outlined in the Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) Grant proposal.

̃         Organizes all instructional, administrative, and student support and parent involvement activities funded through the SLC Grant.   Related responsibilities include:

·         Assists the administration in identifying staff and scheduling students;

·         Budget preparation;

·         Participant identification;

·         Consultation with teachers, parents and other communities;

·         Assessment of program needs;

·         Development of program and/or budget amendments as needed;

·         Program evaluation;

·         Plans and supervises the professional development for teachers and other appropriate staff members.


̃         Assists the administration in supervising the grant staff by or through activities such as observing classroom instruction, advising staff members on classroom organization and instructional management, proposing grouping practices, and guiding staff members in selection and use of materials/equipment and strategies.

̃         Serves at the request of principals as advisor and special consultant to teachers participating in grant activities.

̃         Implements plans and procedures for maintaining fiscal responsibility within the program by developing expense reports/reimbursement requests as required, requisitions for materials/equipment, monitoring expenditures, and inventory procedures for equipment.

̃         Oversees the development/implementation/coordination of  SLC program curricula in relation to the curriculum of regular district programs by or through:

·         promoting the use of instructional materials;

·         program evaluation comparing grant participant’s performance with median district performance;

·         applying instructional monitoring procedures;

·         assisting with the development, implementation, and appropriate use of  SLC student tutors and mentors;

·         participating in proposed and ongoing curriculum development projects related to the implementation of the SLC concept;

·         recommending changes or improvements as needed.

̃         Works toward developing an improved understanding of participating students' educational needs on the part of teachers, administrators, and parents and interprets the educational progress of students to them through;

§         Media releases (newspaper, radio, TV);

§         Conference presentations at local, state, and national levels;

§         Presentation to school and district level audiences;

§         Presentations to public and civic organizations.

̃         Acts as district liaison to the Office of Federal Programs – Federal Agency.

̃         Oversees, prepares and/or submits reports and other documents to appropriate agencies as required.

̃         Assumes responsibility for own professional development by keeping current with literature, new research findings and improved techniques in implementing programs which include the evaluation of new instructional methods and programs for possible appropriateness and effectiveness of use with School-Within-A-School programs; and for attending appropriate professional meetings.

̃         Attends to other responsibilities related to and/or impacting upon the program as directed by the Office of Federal Programs, the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, and/or the administration of Greenwood High School.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Masters degree in Education and/or Administration. Significant program hours toward a valid S.C. Certificate as supervisor/principal and five years successful experience as a classroom teacher or administrator. Must be able to effectively deal with the public and staff both in person and on the phone.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commission, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
