Greenwood School District 50 Position Description

Position Title:   Director of School/Parental Involvement

Department:      Administration

Reports To:      Assistant Superintendent for Administration

 

SUMMARY:  Provide a parenting skills development service to children and their families. Serve as a member of school collaborations and partnerships in planning and providing services to help children be successful in school and life.  Effectively uses all appropriate resources to help students and families resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered.

 

 JOB GOAL: To use effectively all appropriate resources to help parents be the first, most influential and forever teachers in the development of their child.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Attendance

  • Assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and policies concerning student attendance. 
  • Monitor and reconcile SASI 45th, 90th, 135th, and 180th day data extraction for compliance with the federal Uniform Management Information Reporting System. 
  • Consult and coordinate with school personnel regarding referral of students to Family Court or other courts having jurisdiction over juveniles; or the Department of Social Services. 
  • Gather information from schools; complete and submit Truancy and Contempt Petitions to the Solicitor’s Office.
  • Serve as the District Attendance Officer in Family Court.
  • Reconcile Department of Juvenile Justice payment claim with SASI enrollment data for Business Office to ensure proper reimbursement for our students residing in Department of Juvenile Justice facilities.
  • Receive, compile, and send to schools Department of Social Services forms for students receiving Family Independence services.

 

Case Management

  • Provide programmatic support to the Case Managers to ensure all appropriate resources are utilized to help students remove barriers to school attendance; resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school. 
  • Establish and maintain effective liaison with various offices and agencies within the community that may provide specialized or professional help to students and their parents. 
  • Consult and collaborate with school personnel and community agency personnel in establishing and planning for respective roles in improving the quality of student outcome and developing solutions. 
  • Provide monthly in-services and community presentations to keep case managers informed of community resources. 

 

McKinney – Vento Homeless Assistance 

  • Serve as the district homeless liaison. 
  • Work with community agencies and schools to ensure that homeless child and youth are identified, enrolled, and receive equitable access to education and support services. 
  • Assure homeless students have medical/dental care, appropriate clothing, school supplies, and transportation to school. 
  • Review and revise district policies to meet federal guidelines. 
  • Disseminate public notice of the educational rights of homeless children and youth. 
  • Provide in-services to school personnel and community agencies as federally mandated. 
  • Compile and maintain data for required annual reports to the State Department of Education.
  • Submit grant proposals for funding through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. 
  • Assure compliance with all federal regulations of the grant. 
  • Compile grant data and submit the end-of-year report and the Education for Homeless Children and Youth Data Collection Form in a timely manner. 
  • Assure that funds are spent for authorized activities  and  submit budget reports to the State Department of Education for reimbursement
  • Represent the school district on the GAMES (Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick, Edgefield, Saluda) Homeless Coalition. 
  • Work closely with the Bowers-Rodgers Home for Neglected and Abused Children and with MEG’S House, the local domestic violence shelter. 
  • Confer with the Greenwood emergency shelters to compile and maintain required State Department of Education funding documentation forms. 
  • Confer with SASI/Attendance clerks to assure proper coding in the school management system. 
  • Provide required documentation to the district Business Office for proper disbursement of funding received for students who temporarily reside in emergency shelters.

 

Medical Homebound Instruction

  • Assure compliance with federal, state and school district laws and mandates concerning medical homebound. 
  • Assist schools and families with medical homebound issues and concerns. 
  • Assist schools in securing homebound teachers. 
  • Reconcile physician ordered medical homebound days with days of instruction received to assure student has received appropriate services. 
  • Assure homebound correctly entered in SASI data system for funding reimbursement purposes.  
  • Responsible for homebound teacher payroll and travel documentation for funding purposes. 
  • Complete reimbursement forms for agencies/institutions that provide residential placement for our students.

 

Safe & Drug Free, Dropout Coordinator and Even Start and Family Literacy

  • Serve as the district Even Start coordinator and the Family Literacy Coordinator.
  • Assure all components of the grant are met: Adult Education, Early Childhood Education/Childcare, Parenting Education and Home Visits., including attendance and time requirements. 
  • Assure all mandated assessments and screenings are provided and staff are trained in administration: TABE, BEST, Ounce, Ages & Stages, Peabody Picture Vocabulary and Parent Education Profile (PEP), PALS.  
  • Assure appropriate curriculum is provided to participants and staff are trained and retain certification. 
  • Submit program information into FLOIS, the State Department of Education data collection system. 
  • Supervise the home visitor and childcare workers.  
  • Responsible for expenditure and reimbursement of federal grant funds.
  • Attend State Department of Education mandated Even Start meetings and training sessions.

Parents As Teachers (best practice used in FL and ES)

  • Serve as the district Parents As Teachers supervisor.
  • Gather, organize and submit to the State Department of Education the Parents As Teachers yearly report.
  • Assure staff members maintain current Parents As Teachers certification.

 

First Steps

  • Respond to Greenwood County First Steps competitive grant proposals. 
  • Assure compliance with grant specifications.
  • Responsible for expenditures and reimbursements claims. 
  • Supervise the First Steps funded home visitor. 
  • Assure all required assessments and services are provided to families. 
  • Assure data collection is current and submitted to the Office of First Steps timely.  
  • Complete end of year reports and submit to the state Office of First Steps. 

 

 Child Care

·        Coordinates the C˛ Child Care Program

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate or Bachelor Degree in Psychology or Social Work, Human Services or related field.  One year successful work experience in human services.

Must be able to effectively deal with the public, staff, students and parents both in person and on the phone.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
