Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:    Special Education Facilitator

 

Department:      Special Services

Reports To:      Director of Special Services

                                                           

            SUMMARY: Responsible for enabling students with special needs to receive appropriate educational experience through the planning and monitoring of individualized programs and services.

 

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Arranges and conducts staffings for students with special needs in accordance with state and federal regulations.

·        Works in conjunction with teachers and administrators to plan appropriate special services based on individual student needs.

·        Maintains appropriate documentation and processes required follow-up of student staffings.

·        Assists parents to gain an understanding of their child’s learning needs and shares suggestions to help in the home setting.

·        Consults with teachers, administrators, and parents to monitor students’ services and conducts additional staffings as needed for program adjustment.

·        Conducts, documents, and reports structured observations of students as required to satisfy assessment procedures and to assistant in individual program planning.

·        Serves as a resource person for teachers, other school personnel, and parents concerning students’ special education services.

·        Performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

 

·        A valid South Carolina certificate in special education, guidance, and/or administration.

·        At least five years successful experience in public school work.

·        Persons considered for this position should be experienced in, or have knowledge of, the various categories of disability, procedures for identifying these disabilities and program alternatives for students with special needs.

·        Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Board of Education.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must have experience in or have knowledge of the various categories of disability, procedures for identifying these disabilities and program alternatives for students with special needs.  Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
