Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Special Services Compliance Coordinator
Department: Special Services
Reports To: Director of Special Services
SUMMARY: Responsible for
assisting the Director of Special Services in enlarging the educational
experience of students by facilitating their best possible adjustment to school
through a program of special services for students with special needs.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
Other duties may be assigned.

Assists in
coordinating the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act by developing policies and procedures under the direction of
the Director of Special Services. |
·
Monitors
activities to ensure that the various components of IDEA are being
implemented. |
· Supervises the procedural
aspects for placing children into, and dismissing children out of special
education. |
· Keeps abreast of the legal
rules and regulations set forth by the State Department of Education and the
federal government. |
·
Serves as a
support to principals and special education teachers in the day to day
operations of special education programs.

·
Works closely
with principals and teachers in an advisory capacity on matters of student
behavior and learning. |
·
Gathers and
compiles data for state and federal reports. |
·
Participates
in conferences and consults with parents regarding concerns for their
children as needed. |
·
Provides
opportunities for staff development. |
· .Serves as a resource
person concerning students’ disabilities for teachers and other school
personnel |
·
Attends
school-based staffings on an as needed basis. |
·
Performs such
other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned. |

EDUCATION,
QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

A
master’s degree in special education, psychological services, and/or
administration. |

A valid |
·
At least five
years successful experience in public school work, either as a special
education teacher or in psychological services, and/or administration. |
·
Persons
considered for this position should be experienced in, or have knowledge of,
the various categories of disability, procedures for identifying these
disabilities and program alternatives for students with special needs. |
·
Such
alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
and acceptable. |
LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze,
and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal
documents. Ability to write reports,
business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top
management, public groups/community, and Board of Education.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability
to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to
practical situations.
REASONING
ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
OTHER
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must have experience in or have knowledge of the
various categories of disability, procedures for identifying these disabilities
and program alternatives for students with special needs. Ability to develop effective working
relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely,
both orally and in writing. Ability to
perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of
Education policies.

TERMS
OF EMPLOYMENT:

200 days with salary established by District
salary schedule. |
