http://gohawaii.about.com/travel/gohawaii/ cs/pearlharbor/index.htm?iam=dpile&terms=%2BPearl+%2BHarbor
This site can be a special resource for Memorial Day activities.  It provides information on the history of Pearl Harbor from its early days through the present with special attention to the attack on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese Navy attacked Pearl Harbor.    Teachers will find resources for US History classes; students and parents will find lots of links here to relate history to the movie – and vice versa.  There are lots of stories that may be of interest to veterans and their families.

101 Best Web Sites for Writers

http://www.writersdigest.com/101sites_2000/
M
ore than 600 readers and the editors of Writer’s Digest magazine have selected the top sites for writers for 2000.   Sites must be current and authoritative, offer some free content, and have tangible value to writers.  The list includes general and specific search engines, reference sites, media and news, genre, poetry, and many other types of sites. There are also several job sites – where writers can find work. There is a link to the 1999 list, as well – doubling the resources available to writers.  This site provides great resources for teachers and students who are involved in writing activities – as well as for parents and others who want to improve their writing skills and opportunities.

Computer Viruses and Hoaxes

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html
If you ever get those urgent emails warning you not to open a specific email because it will wipe out your hard drive and send itself to all your friends and relatives, these two sites are for you.  Before you decide to send it to all your friends and relatives so they won’t send it back to you, take a look at these two web sites – just to be sure you’re not spreading a hoax.  Symantec, Inc. maintains a database of real viruses to help you protect yourself.  They also keep a database of virus hoaxes to help you not bother other people by sending out false alarms.  And, remember:  ALL EMAIL CHAIN LETTERS are hoaxes.  There is NO SUCH THING as email tracking software that will send you $5 for every email you send out.

Money Smarts

http://www.frbatlanta.org/consumer/personal_finance/index.html
Research shows that personal bankruptcies are high in states where twelfth graders score poorly on personal finance tests.  This site provides a personal finance curriculum for middle school students to help address the bankruptcy problems.  The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has created this site to support that curriculum and link to the best tools and resources on the web.  The units include Goal Setting, Budgeting, Spending & Credit, and Saving & Investing.  Each unit has an overview, a glossary, and a set of teacher tools.  Online quizzes, a printable midterm, and a final test are included.  This site can be useful in high school economics and to parents who want to help their children develop responsibility for personal finances.
