Earth Science Enterprise:
NASA for Kids Only
http://kids.earth.nasa.gov/
"For Kids Only: Earth Science Enterprise" helps students learn
about aerosols, ozone, air pressure, tropical rainfall and hurricanes, plate
tectonics, earth science careers, and more.
NASA’s commitment to the study of the Earth – not just space – is
shown fully in the resources on this site. Links to Air, Natural Hazards, Land, Water,
and People show the impact of each on the others. The FAQ pages have questions and answers
related to each of the topics. Teacher
guides provide resources for earth science classes. There are lots of things to keep kids of
all ages interested for hours of fun and information.

A Guide to the Business of Babysitting
http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/babysitting/index.html
The purpose of this guide is to prepare potential
babysitters with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for
children. This site starts
students thinking of babysitting as a business and maybe the first step in
their career path. Parents of babysitters – and of children who are to
be left with babysitters – will like this site because it has materials that
can be given to babysitters of all ages, especially younger babysitters who
are just starting out. The site covers good business practices, child
development, safety, general tips on caring for kids, and much more
information. This website is specifically designed
to be used by young people, ages 14-19 who are interested in learning more
about the business of babysitting. It
can also be used in classes that address careers and business education. This
site is not developed for youth under the age of 14 or for child care
professionals who generally need a more concentrated, in-depth learning experience.

The Butterfly Website World Atlas
http://butterflywebsite.com/atlas/index.cfm
The Butterfly Website has created a world
atlas of butterflies and moths that includes links to sites worldwide. You can find pictures and descriptions of
egg, larval, caterpillar, and adult stages for many butterflies and
moths. The links are set up by
continent, country, region, and state.
You can check out the butterflies and moths of South Carolina and
almost every other part of the world.
This site will be of interest to anyone who watches the butterflies
and moths that migrate through their backyards. It has excellent materials for natural
science and biology classes, as well.
For elementary students, it is a wonderful place to study insects.

The AFI Lists
http://www.afionline.org/100lists
The American Film Institute
presents lists of the 100 greatest movies of all time, the 100 funniest
movies of all time, the 100 most thrilling movies of all time, and the 50
greatest stars of all time. This site
not only lists the greatest – it also lists 400 – 500 nominees in each
category. You can read about each
movie, vote for your favorites in the “public” list, search for trivia about
the movies, play Name-That-Movie, and more.
This site makes a great index for what to rent this weekend. Because each move is dated, there may be
some resources here for social studies classes.

Invention and Innovation
http://www.si.edu/lemelson/
The Lemelson Center
at the Smithsonian Institute is a place to explore the exciting world of
invention. Whether you're a student, teacher, inventor, or history buff,
you'll find things you can use here.
One of the “center piece” topics is “Whole Cloth: Discovering Science and Technology through
American Textile History.” This
section includes a history of the textile industry within a context of
society, labor, war, and other areas.
Teachers will find interdisciplinary lesson plans that include
hands-on activities for textile-related topics. This section may be of interest to many in
the Greenwood community because of its strong ties to textiles. There are many other topics presented in
interesting and informative ways.
