The Foliage Network
http://www.foliagenetwork.com/
Every autumn, the leaves begin to turn bright colors. People from all areas of the country visit
the areas where the colors are the most beautiful. The Foliage Network was developed to
provide accurate foliage information for various locations across the United
States. During the months of September, October, and November, The Foliage
Network collects data from our foliage spotters twice a week. This data is
collected, plotted, and analyzed by The Foliage Network staff. This website provides the latest
information about the changes in leaf colors from the Northeast to the
Southwest – and all points between.
You can find pictures from the current and previous seasons. You can
even volunteer to be a foliage spotter.
This site provides some interesting resources for life science classes
in addition to helping families plan their foliage trips.

DemocracyNet
http://www.dnet.org
DemocracyNet – DNet – is an
informative public interest site that covers all elections at the national
and state levels. Just enter your zip code to find out who's running for
offices on your ballot and where the candidates stand on issues you care
about. This website is endorsed by
candidates who want to make their positions clear on specific issues and by
voters who can do some “comparison shopping” among those candidates. By giving the one of the Greenwood area zip
codes, you can find the candidates for the Senate, for Governor and other
state offices, for Congressional seats, and others. A visitor to this site can suggest and
issue that the candidates should address.
County officials can also update information about county
elections. DemocracyNet can help all
candidates and voters understand each other – and, in doing so, help each
make an informed decision at election time.
This website is a project of the League of Women Voters Education
Fund.

Figure This!
http://www.figurethis.org
Figure This! Mathematics Challenges for Families
provides interesting math challenges that middle-school students can do at
home with their families. New
challenges are released each month.
Each challenge features a description of the important math involved,
a note on where the math is used in the real world, a hint to get started,
complete solutions, and resources for further exploration. Each challenge also includes additional related
problems and fun facts related to the math used in the challenge. The site also includes family support
materials, including sample questions, hints on how to help with math
homework, and examples of math in literature.
This website is an excellent resource for parents who want to help
their students succeed in math. It can
also be used by teachers to motivate students in the classroom.

DoSomething.Org
http://www.dosomething.org
DoSomething is a nationwide network of
young people who know they can make a difference in their communities and
take action to change the world around them.
DoSomething is all about your ideas, your solutions and your vision
for a better community. As part of
DoSomething, teens decide what they want to do to make things better and then
DoSomething gives them the resources and support to bring their unique
visions to life. As part of DoSomething, more than 4 million young people are
taking action to improve their communities – from mentoring at-risk children
to cleaning up the environment to helping gang members choose peace.
DoSomething has provided more than $1 million in direct funding to young
people to help turn their ideas for a better community into action.
DoSomething is also helping more than 6,000 community organizations to
involve young people as leaders in their efforts to create a better
world. DoSomething is supported by
Blockbuster, Rolling Stone Magazine, Applied Materials, The Pew Charitable Trusts,
Perrier, Levi's, and the contributions of hundreds of individuals. If you have an idea about improving
something for someone, share it with DoSomething – see if your idea can be
turned into action.
