Do-Not-Call Registry
http://www.DoNotCall.gov
The National Do Not
Call Registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's
consumer protection agency. The
registry was created to offer consumers a choice regarding telemarketing
calls. It gives consumers an
opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls they receive. If you register now, most telemarketers
will be required to remove the numbers on the registry from their call lists
by October 1, 2003, when the National Do Not Call
Registry will be enforced. If you
register later, your telephone number must be removed within three months of
registration. The website has information
for consumers, for businesses that use telemarketing to contact potential
customers, and for media outlets. The
online registration process is simple:
(1) give your phone numbers and email address, (2) confirm your phone
numbers and email address, and (3) open an email that is used to acknowledge
your registration.
