Home Network Access ·
At home, you may have one of two types of networks: (1) broadband –
DSL or cable modem; or (2) dial-up – through your
telephone line. See the appropriate
link for more information about connection the laptop to your home network. ·
Logging into your home network o
Each laptop user must have a userID and password to log into the
laptop; this will be the teacher to whom the laptop is assigned; no other
non-district users should be added to the laptop o
At home, connect one end of the Ethernet cable (for broadband) or one
end of the phone line (for dial-up) to the wall jack in your home and the
other end into the appropriate port (Ethernet or modem port – those are
different sizes) on the laptop o
Start your computer and log into your home network with your usual
userID and password; be sure to click the box labeled Workstation Only (since
you will not be logging into the school network) ·
Open your web browser o
If you’ve used your laptop at school, you would have been required to
turn on the proxy that is required inside the district network o
If you cannot access the Internet at home, follow these steps to turn
off the proxy o
On the browser menu bar, click Tools/Internet Options o
Click the Connections tab at the top of the opened window o
Click the LAN Settings button near the bottom of the window o
In the Proxy Server section of the next screen, click off the check
mark in the box labeled “Use a proxy server for your LAN…” o
Immediately below that line, the Proxy Address and the o
Click OK twice to return to the browser; then click Home or Refresh o
If you still cannot connect to the Internet, contact your Internet
Service Provider to see if they are having trouble with their lines or
routers ·
You will need to turn on the proxy
when you return to school |
