Laptop/Projector Project for Secondary Schools

March 21, 2006

 

INTRODUCTION

On Monday, March 20, 2006, the Greenwood School District 50 Board of Trustees approved a plan for distributing laptop computers to teachers at both high schools, two middle schools, the career center, and the alternative school.  The plan also includes the distribution of computer projectors to each regular classroom at each of those six sites.  The distribution of the technology (laptops and projectors) is contingent upon the completion of three hours of staff development for each teacher receiving the equipment.

 

SCOPE OF PROJECT

The following table includes the counts of teachers (from personnel files for each school) to receive laptops, the counts of regular classrooms (from school floor plans) in which projectors will be placed, and the number of staff development groups (with a maximum of 20-22 participants) to be scheduled at each site:

Note:   Teachers at all nine elementary schools and Brewer Middle School have already received laptops and projectors.  Staff development activities at those schools will be completed by April 6, 2006.

 

IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE

The following tentative implementation schedule has been proposed for the secondary laptop/projector project:

 

By Wednesday, March 22, 2006       Quotes due from vendors of laptops and projectors

By Wednesday, April 5, 2006           Delivery of laptops and projectors to district warehouse

By Friday, April 7, 2006                   OCS inventory laptops and projectors; label boxes for school delivery; install image and configure computers

By Monday, April 17, 2006               Laptops and projectors delivered to schools; at GHS and EMD, laptops for Staff Development Group 1 inventoried in Follett and distributed to those teachers

Tuesday, April 18, 2006                   Staff development begins at EMD and GHS for Group 1’s (3:45 – 5:15 pm or 3:45 – 6:45 (group decision))

By Wednesday, April 19, 2006         All laptops at all the above sites inventoried in Follett, configured for designated users, and distributed to teachers; projectors distributed to designated classrooms

Wednesday, April 19, 2006              Continue staff development activities based on schedule below

By Monday, May 8, 2006                 All staff development completed, as scheduled, with all teachers at the schools listed above completing a minimum of three hours of hands-on activities

Note:   Groups at GHS and EMD may opt for one-day sessions from 3:45 to 6:45 if all members of the group agree.  In those cases, adjustments may be made in other group schedules to fill slots made available by the changes.
