School Network Access

·        Logging into the school/district network

o        Each laptop user must have a userID and password to log into the laptop

o        Each laptop user must also have a userID and password to access the school and district network

o        At school, connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the wall jack in your classroom and the other end into the network port on the laptop

o        Start your computer and log into the network with your usual userID and password

·        Open your web browser

o        If you’ve used your laptop at home or away from school, you may have been required to turn off the proxy that is required inside the district network

o        If you cannot access the Internet, follow these steps to turn on the proxy

o        On the browser menu bar, click Tools/Internet Options

o        Click the Connections tab at the top of the opened window

o        Click the LAN Settings button near the bottom of the window

o        In the Proxy Server section of the next screen, click in the box labeled “Use a proxy server for your LAN…”

o        Immediately below that line, you must see a Proxy Address and a Proxy Port; if you do not, please contact your onsite technology support staff member to get the appropriate settings (this information will be entered only once; after that it will be remembered – even if the proxy is turned off)

o        Click OK twice to return to the browser; then click Home or Refresh

o        If you still cannot connect to the Internet, contact your onsite technology support staff person

·        You will need to turn off the proxy if you are trying to access the Internet outside of your school or the district network
