Laptop-and-Projector Project Begins 5/1/06 In January 2006, the Board of Trustees
approved funding to provide a laptop for each classroom teacher and a
projector for each classroom. The
equipment will be used to enhance teaching and learning by bringing web-based
resources into the classroom for direct teaching. Each teacher in the district has or will
soon complete three hours of staff development for strategies in using the
technology for planning and delivering instruction. As the new school year starts, new teachers
will complete the three-hour session in preparation for using web-based
resources in their classrooms. For
more information about the project, see the following link: http://www.gwd50.k12.sc.us/TechPlans/TechPlan2006.htm.

Important Teacher Notes ·
Your laptop should be in your classroom every day. Please do not leave it at home on school
days. It was purchased as a teaching
tool and to be a teaching tool, it must be where you are teaching. ·
Do not leave the laptop in your car ever. Heat and cold will damage the electronics
and the screens. Such damage is not
covered under the accidental damage contract for the laptops. ·
Do not allow family members spouses, children, grandchildren, etc.
to use the laptop for personal purposes.
If you have student or school information on the laptop, those family
members would have access to that information while using the laptop and
that is a violation of federal and state laws as well as district policy. ·
Backup your folders and files regularly. If a laptop is damaged or stops working, no
attempt will be made to recover those folders and files. Only the original image of the laptop will
be restored; your folders and files must be restored from your backup. Use your flash drive or a CD. |

Taking Care of the Technology The
following list contains important information about taking care of your
laptop: ·
Do not use the laptop while it is sitting on the bed or on some other
soft surface. The cooling fans on the
bottom of the laptop require constant air flow setting the laptop on the
bed will close off that air flow and will cause components in the laptop to
overheat. Always set the laptop on a
flat surface so its feet will leave enough space for the air to be pulled
in by the fans on the bottom of the laptop.
Also, when using the laptop on your lap, be sure to leave clearance
for the air flow. ·
When using the laptop while sitting in a recliner or on a sofa, be
sure to set the laptop aside before standing up. If you slide out of the chair while holding
the laptop in your hands, your clothing may generate enough static
electricity to discharge between your hands and the laptop. This can cause failure of electronics
and/or your hard drive. ·
Be aware that solid food can be as much of a problem for your laptop
as liquids. For drinks, be sure to put
them behind the laptop or on another table.
For solids, crumbs and such can cause the keyboard to fail as easily
as liquid can. Dont eat over your
keyboard. Lean away from the laptop to
eat and wipe your hands before putting them back on the keyboard. |
