Staff Development 1/15/07 Beginning this month, staff development
meetings addressing the state technology proficiency standards will be held
once a month in every school for all certified personnel. The training will last about an hour, and
teachers should be prepared to bring their laptops to the meetings. A
calendar with the dates, times, and topics can be found on the web at: http://www2.gwd50.org/hughesc/Hughes_Staff_Development_Calendar.htm. If you have questions or suggestions for
topics or your school, grade level, or department has a particular need,
please email Cindy Hughes at hughesc@gwd50.org.

Important Teacher Notes · Try a “Daily Dose of the
Web!” Internet 4 Classrooms
is a great resource. One of the site’s
offerings is “A Daily Dose of the Web.”
(http://www.internet4classrooms.com/daily_dose.htm) Under the five broad topics of: Question of the Day,
Subject Area, Quotation Sources, Brain Teasers, and Interesting Trivia, are
links to sites that change daily or weekly.
These links provide short, interesting information which can be used
to start the school day with critical thinking exercises that incorporate the
web. · It is exciting to see more and
more teacher web pages throughout the district! Communication is a very important part of
our role as educators. Web pages
provide us with another means for communicating with parents, students, and
the community. Web pages offer the
opportunity to tell everyone about the quality teaching and learning going on
in your classroom. Remember to take
the time to keep your page updated. It
is important that we provide useful and timely information. |

Working with Attachments Sending,
receiving, saving, and amending attachments has become a regular task. Sometimes we are not quite sure what to
do. For help sending and receiving
attachments in Groupwise, go to “Help” at the top of the Groupwise page. When
the “Help” menu opens, choose the “Index” tab. Type in the keyword, “attach.” Under attach, choose “attach files” for the
steps involved. Directly below
“attach” in the same menu, is the help file for “attachments.” The steps for “opening” and “saving”
attachments can be found here. If you
have any questions, contact the OSCS person for your school. Once an
attachment has been saved, it can then be opened, amended, and sent as an
attachment. This holds true for documents as well as Excel spreadsheets. Simply go to the file that contains the
saved document or spreadsheet, open it, make the necessary changes, save and
close as usual. Then follow the above procedure
for sending an attachment.

Remember: Laptops
are expected to be at school and in use every instructional day. Our students live in and will be expected
to work and compete in a technology-driven world. Who better to model and set the standard
high than us – their teachers? The Laptop-and-Projector Project Website Tech Project:
