Important Teacher Notes

§  Student Engagement Conference
http://www2.gwd50.org/conf/
On July 30 & 31, our district is sponsoring a conference featuring many of our own engaging teachers as presenters as well as visiting presenters.  Concurrent sessions will run both days, during which time there will be eight technology integration sessions!

§  Techtorials from Education World
http://www.educationworld.com/a_tech/archives/techtorials.shtml
What a gold mine of resources!  Education World provides step-by-step directions for everything from cleaning your computer, to creating a seating chart in Excel, and to finding a lost file!  You will want to add this site to your IE Favorites!

§  Computer Help
http://www.computerhope.com/
The first step, if you are having a technical problem with your laptop, is to fill out a “Technology Helpdesk Ticket” found on the District 50 Home Page.  What about if you are working on your home computer or if you have a computer question that is not a technical problem?  Computer Hope has been designed to assist all types of computer users with any of their computer related questions as well as a great location to learn more about your computer and its hardware and software.

§  How to sort data in Word
To alphabetize a list you've typed in Word, make sure you typed each list item on a separate line (i.e. clicked Enter/Return between items.)  Then click Table > Sort and OK.  If text other than the list appears on your page, highlight the list before sorting.

Websites that Educate, Enlighten, Entertain, and Engage

·   Epilepsy Classroom
http://www.epilepsyclassroom.com/home/index.aspx
Epilepsy is often surrounded by fear and negativity; usually it’s just misunderstood.  Epilepsy Advocate™ developed this resource to help teachers effectively manage and discuss epilepsy in the classroom.  (K-12 lesson plans are included.)

·   Book Wink (Gr: 3-8)
http://www.bookwink.com
Bookwink's mission is to inspire kids to read” using online video and podcasting.  The three minute videos are updated monthly.  Each video booktalk is about a different topic, and additional read-alikes can be found on the Bookwink website.  You can look for books by subject, grade level, author, or title.  The booklist is constantly updated.

·   To Fly is Everything
http://invention.psychology.msstate.edu/
Calling itself a “virtual museum covering the invention of the airplane,” this site offers a digital library, photo gallery, inventors’ gallery, plane database, and a “tale” about the history of the airplane.  It is the most comprehensive site on aviation that I’ve ever seen!
