Important Teacher Notes

· Backup your folders and files regularly.  If a laptop is damaged or stops working, no attempt will be made to recover those folders and files.  Only the original image of the laptop will be restored; your folders and files must be restored from your backup.  To back up your folders and files, use your flash drive, a CD, or your folder on your school server for storage.

· Your laptop should be in your classroom every day.  Please do not leave it at home on school days.  It was purchased as a teaching tool – and to be a teaching tool, it must be where you are teaching.

· Please be sure to secure your laptop when you are away from your desk and when you take it home.

GroupWise Helps

The following are tips for working in GroupWise:

·   To attach a file, document, etc., Click the Attachment iconicon on the toolbar, then browse to and select the file or files you want to send.  (To remove an attached file, right-click the attachment, then click Delete.)  Lastly, click OK and then click Send.

·   To retract an item you have sent, click the Sent Items folder in the Navigation Bar.  Right-click the item you want to retract, then click Delete.  Select the appropriate option.  If you have selected to retract this item from other recipients’ mailboxes, you can type a comment to the recipients, explaining why the item was retracted.  Click OK.  (To see which recipients have opened your message, right-click the item, then click Properties.)

·   To create folders to store like emails, Click View> Folder List, then click File > New > Folder (make sure Personal Folder is selected) > click Next.  Type the name and description for the new folder.  Click Up, Down, Right, or Left to position the folder where you want it in the Folder List > click Next.  Specify the display settings for the folder and click Finish.  (Skip the rest of the steps.)

·   To set up an email group in GroupWise, go to File>New>Group.  When a dialog box pops up, type in a name for the group and then choose Add.  When the Select Group Members dialog pops up, if you have received email from the person, his/her name will be under Frequent Contacts.  If you have not received an email, look at the bottom of the dialog box, and choose New Contact.  Another dialog box will pop up for you to fill in the name and email address and any other info you might want to add.  When you have everyone in the group, click OK, and your email group is created.
