Tech Savvy
Educator
12/1/07 The Tech Savvy Educator is
made up of a “community of educators (elementary teachers, technology
specialists, secondary teachers, administrators, and others from the field of
education) dedicated to sharing and discovering ways for students to use
technology in a practical way to create new knowledge, communicate and collaborate
across long distances, and enhance learning.”
This
website contains a wealth of information! The opening page is a daily
blog by Ben Rimes, TechSavvyEd Webmaster, Blogger, and Elementary
School Technology Teacher. In today’s post, he tells about discovering Sesame Street
Podcast. He tells his readers that, “Each weekly podcast focuses on
listening, reading comprehension, and vocabulary building and contains short
clips from the show intermingled with special appearances from celebrities
and of course, Muppets.”
The Tech Savvy Educator also has a free forum. On
the site, readers can find the categories of the topics for all of the posts
to the forum. The topics range from Advocacy and Art to Websites and
Wikis. Readers can subscribe to an email list to be notified whenever a
new post is added.
This site is worth checking out!

Teacher Notes
eProficiency, the state sponsored application for
managing teachers’ technology proficiency skills, is now available.
Training sessions have begun in this order: first, teachers whose teaching
certification expires in June 2008; next, teachers whose technology
proficiency certification expires in June 2008; and finally, all other
teachers in District 50. Check your email and staff development
calendars for information about introductory meetings and level training
sessions.
OnCourse, is an online, lesson planner
application that allows teachers and administrators to create, manage, and
share lesson plans electronically. Four schools in the district, East
End, Merrywood, Oakland,
and Woodfields, are currently using the program. The remainder of the
schools in District 50 will begin using OnCourse in January after receiving
training from the School Technology Leaders.
School Technology Leaders are teachers selected by their
principals to strengthen the use of technology resources in classroom
instruction. The STL’s will attend regular meetings to learn
content area applications; model technology integration in the classroom;
support the implementation of district instructional initiatives that utilize
technology; assist teachers in acquiring their technology proficiency
competencies; and participate in workshops and conferences in order to learn
innovative technology integration for the classroom. STL’s will receive
a stipend depending on the size of their school.
