Summertime: for your perusal

6/15/09 Once again this summer, you will find websites not only for use in your classroom, but also for your personal interests.  Please take some time to check them out.  Also, if you find something you’d really like to share, please sent it to me at hughesc@gwd50.org.

Of Local Interest…

·    Greenwood Genetic Center:  What a treasure we have right here in Greenwood!  Sure, you knew it was here; but, did you know about everything the Center does?  Check out the wealth of information (including educational offerings) available on the GGC website.

·    Greenwood County Library:  How much do you know about the resources available at our own county library?  It’s not your mother’s library – check it out!

·    Greenwood County GIS:  This Greenwood County interactive GIS mapping website allows you to search, view, measure, and print parcel maps, property information, and other map layers.  Navigation is easy and additional map layers available for viewing include CPW water, gas, sewer, and electric facilities.  Topographic layers include shaded relief, contours, and spot elevations.  Zoning and soil types are also available.  Click the "Layers" button to view the ever increasing list and then toggle them on or off as desired.  In the near future, scanned deeds, mortgages, and plats will be added.

Jim Rex Invites you to be his Friend

Important Teacher Notes
MS Word Tips

·   To put a blank line – or to type additional text – between items in a bulleted or number list, do not use the <ENTER> key – it will add another bullet or number.  Instead, use <SHIFT>+<ENTER>.  That creates a “soft line break” instead of a “hard line break.”  There are two nice things about a “soft line break”:  (1) It doesn’t make a new bullet or line number and (2) it lines things up properly under the bulleted or numbered item.

·   To avoid line breaks at the space between the month and the date, always use <SHIFT>+<CTRL>+<SPACEBAR> between the month and the date – that puts a “hard space” between the two, causing Word to treat the month and the date as though they were one word.

·    Keys for working with documents:
Create a new document                CTRL+N
Open a document                           CTRL+O
Close a document                           CTRL+W
Split a document                             ALT+CTRL+S
Save a document                            CTRL+S
Quit Word                                          ALT+F4
