Greenwood School District 50 Position Description

Position Title:     Coordinator of Student Support Services

Department:    Administration

Reports To:     Assistant Superintendent for Administration

 

SUMMARY:   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

Attendance/Truancy

  • Assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and policies concerning student attendance. 
  • Monitor and reconcile PowerSchool 45th, 90th, 135th, and 180th day data extraction for compliance with the federal Uniform Management Information Reporting System. 
  • Gather information from schools; complete and submit Truancy and Contempt Petitions to the Solicitor’s Office.
  • Serve as the District Attendance Officer in Family Court.
  • Receive, compile, and send to schools Department of Social Services forms for students receiving Family Independence services.
  • Attend State Department of Education Attendance and Truancy meetings and training sessions.

 

Student Support Services

  • Regularly conduct meetings with School Support Facilitators.
  • Provide programmatic support to the Student Services Facilitators.
  • Establish and maintain effective liaison with various offices and agencies within the community that may provide specialized or professional help to students and their parents. 
  • Consult and collaborate with school personnel and community agency personnel in establishing and planning for respective roles in improving the quality of student outcomes. 
  • Serve as District representative in community meetings and advisory boards, as assigned.

 

Dropout Coordinator

  • Assure district submits all completed dropout data required the State Department of Education.
  • Assist schools with student dropout issues and compilation of dropout data.
  • Attend State Department of Education Dropout meetings and training sessions.

McKinney – Vento Homeless Assistance 

  • Serve as the district homeless liaison. 
  • Work with community agencies and schools to ensure that homeless child and youth are identified, enrolled, and receive equitable access to education and support services. 
  • Provide in-services to school personnel and community agencies as federally mandated. 
  • Compile and maintain data for required annual reports to the State Department of Education.
  • Compile grant data and submit the end-of-year report and the Education for Homeless Children and Youth Data Collection Form in a timely manner. 
  • Submit budget reports to the State Department of Education for reimbursement
  • Represent the school district on the GAMES (Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick, Edgefield, Saluda) Homeless Coalition. 
  • Work closely with the Bowers-Rodgers Home for Neglected and Abused Children and with MEG’S House, the local domestic violence shelter. 
  • Confer with POWERSCHOOL/Attendance clerks to assure proper coding in the school management system. 
  • Provide required documentation to the district Business Office for proper disbursement of funding received for students who temporarily reside in emergency shelters.
  • Assure compliance with all federal regulations of the grant.
  • Attend State Department of Education McKinney-Vento Homeless meetings and training sessions.

 

Medical Homebound Instruction

  • Assure compliance with federal, state and school district laws and mandates concerning medical homebound. 
  • Assist schools and families with medical homebound issues and concerns. 
  • Assist schools in securing homebound teachers. 
  • Reconcile physician ordered medical homebound days with days of instruction received to assure student has received appropriate services. 
  • Assure homebound correctly entered in PowerSchool data system for funding reimbursement purposes.  
  • Process paperwork for homebound teacher payroll and travel reimbursement, submit to Business Office for payment.
  • Complete reimbursement forms for agencies/institutions that provide residential placement for District 50 students.
  • Attend State Department of Education Medical Homebound meetings and training sessions.

 

 

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises assigned staff and program areas.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable 

      laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors Degree in social work or related area with at least three years of successful experience in social work..  Master’s Degree preferred. 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Board of Education.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
