Greenwood School District 50
Web Pages for Classroom Teachers
Introduction
This web site will help teachers develop web pages for their classes. This site includes pages and activities to help teachers understand and use the web for instructional and learning activities. Teachers will learn to create and link diverse resources that students can use to find, analyze, and apply information related to their learning tasks and goals.
This site will guide the teacher through the following components of web site construction:
Reasons for using the web for educational purposes: These reasons include organization of curriculum content, communication with parents and the rest of the community, student and parent access to information about course and class requirements, and others.
Basic web concepts and construction strategies: These concepts include the use of text and fonts, the purpose of graphics and pictures, the procedures for links to other pages and sites, and others.
Basic Word 97 functions and features needed for web page creation: These features and functions include text and fonts, alignment of text and graphics, inserting pictures, using tables, and others.
Basic Word 97 web publishing tools and tutorial resources: These tools include the creation of web pages from scratch, using the web wizard, converting existing Word 97 files, and others.
Basic HTML codes, tags, and syntax: Just for the heck of it, some basic HTML samples are included. Strategies and tools are discussed for refining web pages by editing the HTML code. (Sounds scary, doesn't it?)
Links to sites with web authoring tools and resources: These links include Microsoft's gallery of images, sounds, and other resources. There are also some links to sites that provide additional tutorials for web publication.
Sample teacher pages illustrating the use of the web as a resource for teaching and learning: These samples include specific lessons and units as examples for teachers to use in creating their own pages.
This site was built with Word 97 and uses Word 97 tools in the discussion of web page creation. There are several other web authoring tools available; however, if a teacher is already using Word 97 as her or his word processor, web page creation can be simplified by using the program with which he or she is already familiar.
The strategies and steps outlined at this site can be implemented with any web authoring tool, however.
